  1. Aaron, you touch on an excellent point when you mention seeing the story in different forms. Stories have the potential to take on so many different forms and that makes me wonder what is added to (or taken away) from a story when it moves from one form to another. I think the different parts of a digital story taps into the different senses whether it's through a powerful song, a beautiful image, etc.

I hope you do share the website with the digital media teachers at your school!

  2. I agree with Priscilla. It would be neat to see this story in different mediums (I wonder if I could be a differentiated project) I think some students would want the option to write while some might want the chance to use digital story telling or performance. Assessing could be tricky, but student interest would at least be hight.

That's cool you have a digital media class at your school, I'd love to hear more about that. Being an elementary teacher, I think it's important for young kids to use media for many things.

  3. What a great idea to compare the digital story to traditional forms! It would be interesting to do an informal study comparing students’ responses to the same story if one group is given the story in the digital format and the other group is given it in the traditional essay format. I would hypothesize that students would be more intrigued and moved by the digital version. Anyone up for a study?

  4. Glad to hear you plan on sharing this idea/website with other teachers - the best resources I have learned about are usually from other people! Hopefully you will be able to come up with ideas to use in your Math classroom - I'm sure the students would LOVE it & it's something they wouldn't expect to get to do.

  5. I am not a teacher yet, but have a lot of academic experience in art. Math is the hardest subj. for me. I took remedial classes in college just to pass the college-level math. I think, a good idea would be to add more images, like using these as represetations of a formula, I mean, integrating numbers into the story and try to have students figure out, easily, what mathematical practice is being shown. I can talk some more about this w/ you at class.

  6. Images such as, how many parcels of acres of land to harvest a good sack of 68 kilos of rice? How long will it take? What seasons are affected? How diff. was the temperatures during full harvest? I did not like the linearity of Math. It takes a measly 3 secs. to lose an average attention span of an American adult.
